UMMC's Oct.-Dec. grants, awards exceed $9 million
The University of Mississippi Medical Center garnered 46 new and renewed grants and awards during October-December 2017 totaling $9,198,823.
The following faculty and administrators received the largest new grants and awards during the quarter. Dollar values are shown as annual figures.
Dr. Susan Buttross, professor of pediatrics, received $3.5 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration for the project, “Early Childhood Health Promotion System for High Need Program.”
Terrence Hibbert, director of innovation, received $774,000 from the UMMC Research and Development Foundation and the Bower Foundation for the project, “Health Innovation and Transformation (HIT) Center.”
Dr. Carolyn Bigelow, professor of medicine, received $438,609 for an industry-sponsored research agreement.
Dr. Melissa McNaull, associate professor of pediatrics, received $352,010 for an industry-sponsored research agreement and $56,193 from the Mississippi State Department of Health and HRSA for the project, “Educate Pediatricians in the Delta, Coast, Hattiesburg, Meridian, Columbus and Jackson Area About 2014 NHLBI Guidelines for Sickle Cell Disease.”
Dr. Ashley Robinson, professor of microbiology and immunology, received $168,164 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the project, “Comparison of Methods for Detecting Recombination in Bacterial Whole Genome Sequences.”
Dr. Abhay Bhatt, professor of pediatrics, received $152,040 for an industry-sponsored research agreement.
Dr. Charles Moore, professor of medicine, received $136,000 for an industry-sponsored research agreement.
Dr. John Spurzem, professor of medicine, received $83,610 for an industry-sponsored research agreement.
Dr. Courtney Bagge, associate professor of psychiatry and human behavior, received $54,047 from the National Institutes of Health and the University of Michigan for the project, “24-Hour Risk for Suicide Attempts in a National Cohort of Adolescents.”
Dr. Daniel Williams, associate professor of psychiatry and human behavior, received $46,343 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Mississippi State University for the project, “PROMISE Initiative.”
Dr. Robert Hamilton, associate professor of medicine, received $33,500 for an industry-sponsored research agreement.
Dr. Ravi Chandran, assistant professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery, received $30,000 from the DHHS and the MSDH for the project, “Advanced Dental Service for PLWHA Eligible for RW Part B.”
